The Aveda Institute of Denver, Colorado, a school for cosmetology and spa therapy, was lit by 45 suspended 250-watt metal halide highbay fixtures that were dim, industrial looking and difficult to maintain. The facility was able to achieve the desired light levels while reducing the overall fixture count using just 36 of the 80-watt Polygon models in a 3500K color temperature.

-- "As stylists, it is essential to have lights that create even balance, true color and minimal heat. At Aveda, environmentally conscious choices are so important to our building and these lights allow us to live our mission and create an amazing environment for our guests. We have incurred less redo services because our guests now see the true colors in their hair." -- - Dale LeMonds, owner Aveda Institute Denver

The university replaced 40 200-watt incandescent can lights throughout two classrooms with 36 of MaxLite's 50-watt 2’x2’ Direct Lit LED Flat Panels. Also, 46 11-watt PAR30 LED Lamps were installed in the front of the auditoriums. By switching to LED lamps and fixtures, the university is expected to save 690,100 kWh in energy and $87,572 in energy and maintenance costs throughout the L70-rated 50,000-hour life.

-- "We wanted to go LED because they last longer, but I didn’t think 18 flat panels in one classroom would be enough light," said -- Craig Erickson, construction manager at the University of Utah. "We were pleasantly surprised once they were installed, and everyone just loves them. The light is 75 percent better than before, and the products dim so well. We have some more classroom renovations coming up, and we will be using MaxLite products again. I want to make this lighting our standard across campus, wherever we can."

MaxLite FlatMAX® Edge Lit LED Flat Panels were installed in the newly constructed classrooms of Joliet Junior College, in Joliet, Illinois. The 634 LED Flat Panels installed provide the college with a minimum of 30 percent savings in energy usage.

-- “MaxLite’s high quality lighting is superb, however, the real story is that MaxLite’s LED Flat Panels will provide a substantial savings in energy costs,” said Kelly Rother, Director of Communications for Joliet Junior College. “Additionally, the new fixtures will minimize maintenance time for relamping and extend the lamp life beyond 50,000 hours. As a college, we always strive to find the most efficient, cost effective means to operate while acting ecologically responsible.”

/_assets/images/applications/education/calStateExterior.sml.jpg California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH):
In a trial installation, CSUDH in Carson, California, replaced four 59-watt fixtures with two U-bend lamps and electronic ballast with four 45-watt 2’x2’ ECO-T™ LED Recessed Troffers at the Natural Science and Mathematics building near the center of campus. The fixtures were installed recessed within the architectural concrete honeycomb ceilings throughout the campus' external pedestrian hallways. When operated with Enlighted’s controls system and dimmed down to 10 percent, the fixtures utilize just 11 watts of energy and reduce energy consumption by more than 80 percent compared to the former 59-watt two-lamp fluorescent fixtures. Once an additional 400 fixtures are retrofitted with ECOTs, the university will save 960,000 kWh and $157,800 in energy and maintenance savings over the lifetime of the fixtures. However, the university will purchase the fixtures with a special $0.24 kWh rebate from Southern California Edison (SCE), for an additional savings of about $230,000.

-- “I have been searching for a solution for two years for the honeycomb ceilings, but everyone I spoke to wanted me to install a fixture that would attract birds and wasps," said Kenny Seeton, manager central plant at CSU Dominguez Hills. "This design eliminates all those concerns and puts the light down where we need it instead of wasting it up in the ceiling cavity. With the new LED fixtures mounted flush to the honeycomb, I now have two footcandles at 10 percent and 10 footcandles at 50 percent. The old U-Tubes had five to seven foot-candles at 100 percent.”

The Tenino, Washington school district sought to install new LED lights in Beaver Stadium. The district worked with University Mechanical Contractors and Northwest Edison to replace the metal halide fixtures with MaxLite StaxMax LED Flood Lights. StaxMax was selected for the project because of the product’s superior, 75,000-hour lumen maintenance, light output and efficiency..

--“The new stadium lighting has provided a dramatically improved experience for our student athletes and musicians. The new lighting really enhances the look of our new turf field, and it is significant that we have realized this improvement while reducing energy costs. These savings can now be used to improve the District athletic program.” -- Joe Belmonte, Superintendent of Schools

The Fond du Lac School District baseball complex in Wisconsin required a lighting renovation that would reduce maintenance costs and optimize player safety and visibility during games. To meet these lighting requirements, ModMax was applied in a 630-watt configuration to replace the 36 existing 1500- watt metal halide sports lights.

--“The MaxLite fixtures do an excellent job, and you can see just how terrible the metal halide lights looks by comparison. The reaction by parents and students to the new lighting at the field has been overwhelmingly positive.” --John Rodenkirch, Electrician, Fond du Lac School District

The school in Somers, New York, had a mishmash of lighting fixtures from the 1960s throughout the campus that produced uneven distribution. In the school's cafeteria, which also serves as a testing area, study hall and meeting space for after-school events, dinners and dances, the school replaced 40 Lightolier Recessed Incandescent Fixtures with 300-watt bulbs with a parabolic reflector and 31 1’x4’ surface-mounted fluorescent fixtures with two 40-watt T12 lamps each with 45-watt 2’x2’ ECO-T™ LED Recessed Troffers, in 4100K correlated color temperatures (CCT). The DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) qualified fixtures were installed with a dimmer for controllable lighting levels. In the large entry common area, 95 of the same incandescent fixtures and 41 1’x4’ fluorescents were replaced with ECO-Ts. The swap to LED lighting will save the school more than seven million kWh of energy and $241,085 in energy and maintenance costs over the L70-rated 50,000-hour lifetime of the LED fixtures.

-- "The new lighting transformed the school's cafeteria and entranceway. The new lighting is sharp and professional, and we look forward to finishing the rest of the school this summer with MaxLite's LEDs." --- Ed Leahy, Project Manager at Baker Liturgical Art, LLC
