Tree Top, a leading producer of apple juice and cider, and supplier of fruit-based products and ingredients for the world’s leading food and beverage manufacturers, has a vast operation in Selah, Washington that includes a 160,000 sq. ft. storage facility known as the Comet Building. The building’s interior was lit with 400-watt metal halide and T5 fixtures that required expensive labor and downtime in productivity to maintain, because of the facility’s high ceilings. MaxLite worked with the building’s owner to design a lighting solution that would reduce maintenance expenses while increasing light quality. In a one-to-one replacement, 100 of the 160-watt BayMAX Linear Highbay fixtures were installed to replace the outdated lighting. The new LED fixtures will save the Comet Building’s owner and tenant more than 1,205,000 kWh and $114,000 in energy and maintenance costs throughout their 50,000-hour lifetime.

-- “The old fixtures just became too inefficient and difficult to maintain. We couldn’t even find bulbs for them anymore! With the new LEDs, the space is brighter. Our customer, Tree Top, is very happy with the new lighting system.” -- Doug Owens, building owner

The owners of Imagina US in Miami, Florida, installed 16 of MaxLite’s 270-watt Merak® Series LED Roadway Street Lights in the parking lot of their new headquarters. Installed in pairs on a 25-foot double-post pole, the fixtures enabled an average reading of just over four footcandles, with a maximum reading at 15.9 beneath the poles and minimum of 1.4 footcandles in other areas. Compared to the proposed 400-watt metal halide fixtures that consume 462 watts with ballast, the LED fixtures will save the production company 896,064 kWh and $130,855 in energy and maintenance throughout the lifetime of the fixtures, based on a $.14 kWh electricity rate.

-- “Our customers were very pleased with the parking lot’s light levels," said Jose Rieumont, executive vice president, Solar Energy Technologies, Inc. "More than that, they looked forward to realizing the tremendous energy savings the new LED fixtures will offer them for many years.”

From November 2011 through October 2012, Terminal One at San Francisco International Airport in California replaced 500 four-lamp 32-watt T8 fluorescent lamps with 350 of MaxLite’s 2’x2’ 45-watt Direct Lit LED Flat Panels and 150 of the 1’x4’ models by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints and throughout the long concourse. The airport will save on costly maintenance of up to $100 per hour for replacing fluorescent lamps within the ceiling troffers. The DesignLights Consortium®-qualified LED retrofit fixtures will save the airport over two million kWh of energy and $79,000 in energy and maintenance costs throughout the 50,000-hour L70-rated life of the fixtures.

-- “This was one of the first terminals in the United States that made the switch to SSL, and it turned out to a fantastic decision," said Todd Lewis, president at Omega Pacific. "Omega Pacific is known for providing superior illumination and we did not disappoint with this retrofit project. The terminal transformed overnight with better light, hands-down.”
